Birthday Fun: Isla turns 4 and purple cupcakes

Happy birthday to spunky, funny and adorable Isla-bean!

Isla is my friend Lindsey's youngest daughter, and she just turned 4. She's also V's daycare buddy, and being the youngest of three kids she loves playing the "oldest" role around V. Perhaps more accurately she loves getting the chance to be the boss of anything ;) It has been so wonderful watching this little monkey grow up!

I am not a fantastic baker/decorator by any means, but I do love making cakes, and started doing so for Lindsey's three amigos 6ish years ago. This year with work/life/craziness ensuing, Lindsey's husband Justin and I did a spur-of-the-moment collaboration! He baked up some fabulous cupcakes and I piped way too much buttercream icing on top.

Funny story... I called home and asked Mike to bring our little cupcake tier along (in addition to the new puppy, and the wine I forgot) and he instead grabbed the ginormous wedding cake tier used for weddings on our cruise boat. Lindsey and I laughed while we tried to assemble the smallest version of this 5foot stand, in hopes of it not appearing that we forgot 5 dozen cupcakes. We didn't dare say anything--with puppy in tow Mike looked like he may jump out the window. Any minute.

It didn't matter in the end... It looked just fine and Isla beamed with happiness for the purple cupcakes! Turns out anything cake or purple would have won her little heart over!

I love how you can see Isla's little grin on the canvas in the background of this photo. Happy birthday sweet girl! Xo
